We check the GRIB( wind and wave) files on Predictwind.com and it is favorable for NW winds, 20-25 knots, with a 4- 6 foot swell. Something yucky is coming down from the North in a day, so now is our best window to head for Ensenada.
It should take around 11 hours-if we average six knots- and we want to arrive before sunset. We get up in the dark and head out at sunrise to avoid the maze of shrimp traps lining the entrance to the harbor. It's chilly and the swell is quite a bit higher than the forecast. We wonder if maybe the front is moving in more quickly than expected.

By lunch the wind picks up-steady 25 gusting to 30. An hour later it's a steady 30 with gusts to 36. Pura Vida is running comfortably on a following sea of 8-10 feet and even though Jon and I are kept busy on deck, below everything is snug and calm and the kids are sacked-out and snoozing. We cruise along with a double reef in the main and a scrap of Genoa but since we aren't pre-rigged for a third on the mainsail- we furl in the headsail and watch and see what the wind is up to- luckily the breeze stays steady and we surf down the waves at 9-10 knots!
Just as the sun starts thinking about calling it a day, we find ourselves approaching Punta Morro and the Coral Marina is within eye-sight. Yay! We've made it. Much anticipated Margaritas await!
